A Dangerous Thing

Remember
the shades you placed over her power
to see?
The ones meant to pink her world,
to keep her mind
from troubling actions
like thinking.

“A thinking girl is a dangerous thing,”
you said.
“Let me save you.”

Yesterday, after some self-reading,
she chose
to step on your man-made shades;

the pink shattered
under the weight of one clear thought.

Run—
a dangerous thing comes your way!
she thinks.

  9. In "The American Scholar," Emerson criticized the sort of education that turned minds into occupations (or, as here, relationships). "A book in the hand should be a ball of fire." And pink spex are for pink needs!

    1. Ah, the wondrous things (both wonderful and horrifying) a ball of fire can accomplish. May the aim of the thinking be true...

  11. Wow! Such truth surreal and powerful. On a mundane level, you made me think of pinking shears. I haven't thought of their toothy cut in decades.

  13. Sometimes advice, however well-intentioned, is not the best thing for a person in that space in time.

  17. There a many in this world who want to control our thoughts... lovers, politicians, advertisers... "Run—
a dangerous thing comes your way! she thinks." Wonderful warning, Magaly

    1. Control, when forced on another, can damaged so much. Not just the person being manipulated, but everything around... I'm surprised so many fail to see this.

  18. I liked the power that was represented in your words. I think it has something to do with your placement of your lines, as if you were actually holding your ground in between sentences.
