Rush after Darkness Rises Full and Blooming Howls

Every other day, until November 17th, I will share a quote or two from the stories that will appear in Blooming Howls. Remember that whenever you leave a relevant comment on a new post, you’ll be able to claim an extra entry to the Blooming Howls Inspired Blade Giveaway… Make sure you entered the original giveaway post; and do add “This one is for the blade!” at the end of new comments (one extra entry per new post).

The following quotes are from the first two stories in the Blooming Howls collection:

“I panicked when I tried to follow her movements with my eyes, just to be blocked by a horde of ghostly old people grinning at dirty babies whose faces screamed without making a sound.” ~ Rush after Darkness Rises Full

“I thought it would be easy to own my mistakes, to say goodbye, to let go… but the words turned to tears in my mouth and I choked on salt of my own making.” ~ Blooming Howls

To claim your extra blade entry share your thoughts on the quotes above (what comes to mind when you read the words: what feelings, imagery, expectations…).

Here is a bit of mildly random trivia: I almost asked Shelle, my cover artist and dear friend, if she could use the image below to create the cover of Thorn in Red. Yep, you guessed it; there is a Thorn in Red short story in the Blooming Howls collection. I will share a quote soon…

  1. I feel this quote in my soul

“I thought it would be easy to own my mistakes, to say goodbye, to let go… but the words turned to tears in my mouth and I choked on salt of my own making.” ~ Blooming Howls

I can't explain it but I do, I mean chills and all; I guess anybody who's tried to let something/someone go for what ever reason and can't quite do it feels it too. Oh and "This Ones For The Blade"

    1. I totally understand. That feeling of powerlessness, when we want to soothe (ourselves or others), but can't is unmistakable.

This quote is so incredibly sad, probably because I identify so much with it. Beautifully written!

    1. I remember staring at that second quote for a few long seconds before writing on. The event that prompted the words were a surprised to me... and the characters, I think.

"...fun creepy" sounds just right. ;-D

    1. Oh, I can't wait to see your reaction after you read where Thorn in Read is going. AlmaMia's story didn't quite fit in this collection, but I will have a bit of her fiction to share soon.

I think I'm enjoying this way too much. Which is great!

  8. The second quote really spoke to me. It made me remember all the times I thought I wanted to let something (or someone) go and when the time really came I just couldn't. Oh and this one is for the blade! hehe

    1. It is strange and overwhelming to find out that we can't quite embrace the things we thought would be so easy for us, isn't it?

This felt profound to me. It sings to parts of me that hold on to intense guilt over bad decisions that can never be unmade. It's not just loss and grief, but the inability to give those emotions words, and the loss of oneself into the guilt.

You have a gift, my friend.

    1. Thank you. I'm always amazed by how many feelings people who believe themselves to be so different from each other can share. So much similarities (good and bad ones) in a world where so many fight to show otherwise.

  12. Helplessness, overwhelming, in both quotes, of personal events one watches, wants to change but has neither the power or strength to alter, courses past, the events in progress, and future decisions probably already played out in an alternate reality, yes, like we are spectators not quite in control of destiny... both quotes are tragic and emotive.
Soo Ms Wicked, 'almost' asked... did not know :) so I'm pleased to find out you liked this work, like really, I did have a mini quiet chat with myself about being a idiot bothering to paint the things less 'desirable' LOL, landscapes, flowers & kids with bucket & spades in beach scenes are definitely more sellable over here, truth is, I sabotage anything 'straight' that I may start, twisted visions may not get you hung in galleries but F-ing hell, they sure are deeply satisfying to release on canvas ;)
“This one is for the blade!” you betcha :)

  13. The first quote reminds me of working in a long term care facility with seniors. As for the second, ego-embarrassment is a harsh taskmaster.

    1. Doesn't it feel great to be able to say, "Yes, that's it. That's what I was feeling. I'm not alone!" I think sometimes we forget that other people make as many mistakes as we make, and they have as many regrets. Letting go is so difficult... But when we do, then we can fly... like crows.

I can't wait for you to read the story where this quote came from. You will see why you were in my mind when I was writing it. ;-)
