Something Lovey-Dovey and Wicked this Way Comes

It’s not really all that wicked, but wedded just didn’t have the same ring to it.

So… my Wicked Luvs, my Piano Man and I have a We-Just-Got-Wedded get together to plan… See? The word “wedded” sounds kinky, doesn’t it? Maybe it’s just me. Anyway, even though we’ve decided to have a wee intimate ceremony, my Piano Man and I still have plenty of planning to do. And we have done little of it. *Shhh!*

The most difficult details have already been taken care of: I found him, he found me back, and the Little Princess has changed her mind at least ten times about what she’ll wear. I think her first choice was a bathing suit—in the beginning, we thought about getting married by a river, but those logistics aren’t compatible with my hip or my Piano Man’s father’s knee.

The Little Princess has also considered dressing up as a faerie, a witch, a bride, a puppy… in the end she decided to leave her options open, and change again and again as the mood hits her. Yes, the wee wild child is brilliant.

I’m wearing the wedding dress worn by my Piano Man’s paternal grandmother nearly 90 years ago. It’s a delicate bit of Flapper cuteness, all creamy rough silk and lace… which I will accessorize with enough red to make Federico García Lorca’s “Bloody Wedding” seem dull by comparison. I’m thinking red slip, red footwear (more on this later), and enormous hair.

My Piano Man wants to wear linen pants and a Guayabera, (or Chacabana, if you are from the Dominican Republic). This is “a men’s shirt popular in Cuba, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and throughout Africa. It is also known as a Wedding Shirt.” I didn’t know the last bit before writing this post. Get wedded and learn, I say.

My Dad and The Boy (my nephew) are wearing chacabanas, too. I told my Dad that The Boy was probably going to wear something red. He told me, “I will not wear any red. I don’t like red on me.” I said that he could wear a rainbow tunic on acid if he wanted, and I would be just as happy. He asked me, “Why would a rainbow tunic be on acid?” I roared, and told him I loved him.

Everyone else can wear whatever puts a smile on their faces. At first, I was going to suggest that our guests kept things casual and summery, for the fun is taking place in our apartment. But you know what? I changed my mind. I’m leaving it up to them. If their happiest dream has always been to go to a wedding dressed up as The Queen of Hearts or Edward Scissorhands, I would be a horrid person if I crushed their dreams. Besides, I suspect the Little Princess would approve.

I love the lacy daisies of my dress… Like Gina said, “It was sooo meant to be.”

Edited on June 7, 2014: Dear Wicked Luvs, it will be a while before I reply to the comments you’ve added (and are encouraged to continue adding) to this post. Please read “Blood Red and Old Lace” for details… You rocketh very mucho!

Edited (again) 9 hours later: I cant stand the sight of comments that seem unacknowledged, so I better answer them before I lose my mind. Go ahead, you are more than welcome to laugh at my quirks. I do it at least 3 times a day. Ive heard is good for the soul and the lungs.

  1. Much MUCH JOY to you and your Piano man and the Little Princess! I am (im)patiently waiting for pictures of what I know is going to be THE celebration (Kimye got nothing on you!) of the year. Blessings my love to you and yours!!

    1. Is it extremely horrible and uninformed of me that I had to google "Kimye"? LOL! Thanks sooo much for the blessings. Right back at you!

  2. So glad things are finally taking shape with the two of you! And: I never understood the whole thing about dresses and dress codes for weddings. Some women really go all bridezilla - fun to watch, tough to handle. After the 23rd reminder à la, "But please remember, only the bride is allowed to wear white!" it gets weird. If someone really thinks it has to be this way because THIS is going to be the happiest day of their life, they are marrying the wrong person.
(I hear for happy couples it only gets better after that.)

    1. I guess I understand why some bride rather be the only ones "to standout." Okay, I really don't, but I'm sure they have their reasons. I want the people who will enjoy our moment to be super happy and comfy, so as long as they are wearing clothes all is well. ;-D

  4. You know you need more tea when you read "chacabanas" as "chupacabras". Though the image of people wearing chupacabra pelts like some sort of mad version of Conan the Barbarian did amuse me.

    1. Best comment yet. And yes, I clearly needed more tea, because even though I read the word carefully (phonics...) I still saw ravening cryptids.

    2. I read it the same way, Kestril! Where were our heads?! Lol
I will say the Mexican wedding shirts are lovely!

    3. You guys should feel very good about yourselves. The other day, while we were shopping, my Piano Man, too, said chupacabra instead of Chacabana. I suspect this detail will be important for the story to come. *grins*

  6. Oh, gosh, I love that lace! What lovely lace and yes, it will have the fabulous texture of real, natural cloth. It's going to look gorgeous paired with red. You're going to look so pretty! And Dexter wore those shirts. He looked so cool and yet so hot in them, too. We're going to need pictures!

    1. The lace is so delicate that I told my Piano Man that he must be careful when he looks at me. If the gaze is too intense, I might end up in nothing but my slip in front of our guest. Can you imagine? Yes, you can.

And I do adore Dexter's shirts. The blue one he wears most often is my favorite!

      You'll get pictures, soon.... muahahaha!

  16. I love your plans, they all seem great and personal and beautiful. If I ever get married I too would love for people to come dressed up as whatever they want. Then again, I'm guessing July in NYC is sweltering and there might be natural limitations to the costume choices.

  17. Obviously, congratulations are in order. For the upcoming Day, and for finding someone to stand next to ON it. I suffer in these types of comment flurries because I don't know anything about lace, wedding shirts, or why you're inviting chupacabras to your blissful moment. I do know that Life is ridiculously short, never full of as much free time and books as we're owed, and very likely to be the death of everyone living it. If it's a ride, remember you only get one go. Special moments never come more than the boring, scary ones, so enjoy yours. Every greedy moment. Because most people only know they are happy in hindsight. If you know you're happy as you go? You're winning the game everyone loses at the end.
