Can’t Scroll, Can’t Comment on Blogger with Ease, Can’t Recall the Location of Text Boxes… Google Chrome Seems to Be Out of Its Browsing Mind

I’ve switched to Firefox. I used Google Chrome, and was completely faithful, for about five years. I fell for the browser while it was still in its beta form, but these last few days have been a frustrating nightmare. And I’m not the only one. According to CNET, there are many Chrome users mad at Google for switching up scroll controls.”

The banishment of the up and down arrows isn’t the only thing wrong with Chrome. As I shopped around for a new browser, I noticed other issues (at least for those of us using Blogger and Windows 7):
- Fonts have lost my customized touches.
- Post titles have blurred.
- When I click “Reply” to a comment, I scroll for the box… Oh, wait, there is no scrolling to speak of. It’s more of a click-drag-and-curse until I find the comment box.

Anyhoo, this is not a bitching venting post, not really. I’ve always thought that complaining about something that is virtually free is a tad ridiculous. I’m sharing because many Wicked Darlings, who are Chrome users, have been having the scrolling problem. Well, it seems that as of right now, the easiest (and perhaps only) solution is to switch browsers. I tried Opera, Safari, ancient Explorer and Firefox. I kept the latter because it offers the best results: sharp text, fine images, fonts as I choose them, and yes, a thick scrollbar and up and down arrows.

The other browsers are just fine when it comes to scrolling, but I ran into the same issues I had with Chrome concerning fonts.

I almost forgot! If you are one of the Wicked Darlings who can’t comment from his or her iPad, you might want to consider adding Opera to your list of browsers. John Large – Technology & life Blog explains why in his article Problems posting comments on blogger from iOS iPad safari and chrome.”

Read on, my Wicked Luvs. And comment… if you can *cough, cough, cough*.

  4. I stopped using Chrome when it started being weird with Facebook a while back. I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but I found that Firefox worked better so I switched.

I'll have to suggest to my mom that she try Opera on her iPad. The online system at the university she goes to had an update making it pretty incompatible with Safari on iPads, which limited where she could do homework...which was pretty inconvenient for her.

    1. Chrome always worked for me, but this time it just didn't. I'm happy with Firefox, right now. I'm hoping to stay that way!

    2. I was disappointed to leave Chrome, I'd been pretty loyal and was sad to leave. But if it's acting funny...oh well. Maybe I'll return to it someday.

    1. I'm a wheel-scroller, too. Arrows, what arrows?

I don't have issues with fonts being weird in Chrome... I was a Firefox fan until I discovered Chrome a couple years ago.

I only have a couple sites I go to that, for whatever reason, don't even load in Chrome, but I can access just fine via Firefox (in particular, the site where my pay stubs are stored).

    2. My shoulder and hip issues force me to write on a very specif position. Even shifting my hands/fingers in particular ways can ruin my day, so it's a huge issue for me (the wheel doesn't quite work for me. ;-(

But Firefox is working. Still, I hope Chrome gets its act straight.

  7. Screw the chocolate and coffee--go for the booze. My issue is when I try to advance a page in a facebook article (like: go to page two for the recipe), I get some stupid weight loss ad or congratulations, you've been chosen to take this survey.

    1. That is so strange... not the leaving the sweets for booze, but the prompting from Facebook. I guess they get creepier and creepier.

    1. I've noticed that different people are having different issues... I still think it's so ironic that Blogger and Chrome aren't communicating well. I mean, really? And I'm write with you, their need to stay ahead keeps on breaking things that shouldn't have been touched to begin with... Then again, what do I know, lol

  9. I too have a wheel mouse, so no arrows here either. I still use chrome but left Blogger months ago, I didn't like the way they kept deleting functions that are necessary to keep happily blogging. As for Firefox, I only use it on the very rare occasion I cannot log into my classes from Chrome, but that is a tech issue for the college.

At any rate I'm pleased you found something that is working well for you!

  11. Luckily, I decided on Firefox about 2 years ago when I had a really annoying cannot-publish-my-comments issue with Explorer. I've heard LOTS of angry people complaining about Chrome now. And yes, complaining always helps, whether its a free browzer or not - no one likes to be the laughing stock of the industry.

  13. Magaly, I'm sorry for the things your going through! I know two other people that I follow, had their entire blog go down because of Google +. I don't even know what this is all about! I just blog and hope it all turns out right! LOL!

  15. I still am liking Chrome. I use a tablet and stylus instead of a mouse, so my scrolling/selectin mechanics are different. AND, I use Speed Dial with Chome to organize my data with no inclination to reconfigure with another browser.

So I guess this is "name your poison" for browsers

  16. Magaly thank you SO much. I have been off line for about a month and after getting a new refurbished laptop with Windows 7 and I have always been a faithful Chrome user too. My blog lost all the pics which I found and fixed but its been horrible. I feel like I turned my computer on and went to my own blog program and was lost! I use to use Firefox and I am now going back. Thanks again girl, you ROCK and now I realize that I am not quite as electronically crazy as I thought I was! Big hugs!

  18. Isn't it amazing that each browser brings with it so many differences? I use Safari and Firefox. I have both and switch between them. Always something new to learn about. :)

    Good luck with Firefox!

  19. Wheelscroller here, but I haven't put up any blog posts for a week, so I'll have to see how it goes.I know Blogger gets a fit of the vapours, every now and then, and eats blogs whole (mixed metaphor, I know), but I'm not quite ready to go back to the fox yet.
