All Hallow’s Grim 2013… So Good, So Dark

Some time ago, a few friends and I were discussing societal views on dark, light, good and evil. I’m not sure which of us said the words, but we all agreed with their general meaning: The traditional (and erroneous) obsession of associating dark with evilness and light with goodness is getting rather tiresome. For if darkness is always bad, how is it that most seeds are started in the dark, and babies grow in the dark safety of the womb? And if light is always good, why does fire burn to the bone killing cruel and fair souls alike?

The aim of All Hallow’s Grim 2013… So Good, So Dark is to use our artistic power, intellect and heart to create posts that show the delicious goodness that blooms in the dark.

We will party from October 13th to October 21st. Publish as few or as many posts as you like, my Luvs. Scroll down for information on how to join.

Here Is What You Need to Do to Participate:
1. Leave a comment telling me a bit about your thoughts on the party topic, and include a link to your blog at the end of the comment (I will add your blog’s name to the party list).
2. Grab the party button (code on my sidebar) and add it to your sidebar.
3. Between October 13th and 21st write one post (or more), then come back to this entry to leave a comment with the direct link to your party post. I will add the title and your name to a list I will keep on my sidebar for the duration of the party, then they will be archived here.

Want to Sponsor an All Hallow’s Grim 2013 Giveaway? Edited 9/25: All sponsorship spots are full.
1. Come up with something that reflects the party theme (i.e. books, paintings, jewelry, soaps, Caribbean islands, music, candles, sculptures … or anything that shows the beauty that grins and dances of the dark).
2. Please keep in mind that I only accept giveaway sponsorships that reflect this blog’s values. The best way to understand what this means is to read a few posts. If the reading doesn’t answer your questions, here is a summary: at Pagan Culture, we love words; we understand the significance of sharing knowledge and learning in a safe environment; we respect ourselves and all other living things; we laugh with our entire faces and howl at the moon, even when it’s not full (The last bit might be just me, but try if you like. It’s awesome!)
3. Email me (magalyguerrero @ live . com), and we’ll discuss the details. Make sure your subject line is written in this manner: Item Name – All Hallow’s Grim 2013… Request to Sponsor.

Miscellany/Sundry/Medley (aren’t words delicious?):
* Anyone can participate in the party. Please try to enter the fun before October 13th.
* The giveaway rules will appear at the end of individual giveaway posts.
* The art for the button (without the text) was created by SunshineShelle.
* Not sure what to post about? Fly over to Witches in Fiction 2013… to the Bone and All Hallow’s Grim 2012 – the Darker Side of Faerie to see what others have done in the past.
* If you have any questions, email me or leave your inquiries as comments on this post.

  3. Love the theme of your party Magaly. We all need some darkness (some of us more than others) but without dark how would anyone notice the light. Shadow, shade and darkness all enable the light to be noticed. Light is by no means innocent either, it can harm, think of things like sunburn and as many dangers lurk in the daylight as they do under the moon.

Dark and light can bring dangers in equal measure but the dark has always had bad press, a bit like the number 13. Great idea to even the balance up with your party. I'll have to get my thinking cap on about what to do. :)

  6. It's amazing to me just how many people don't realize what a very colorful life the "dark" has. If people could see just what goes on in the dark, they'd realize that being afraid of it, or calling it evil is misplaced.

    I think I'm in. :D

  7. I very much agree with your sentiment. Also, I don't believe in "evil" as a concept anyway. I grabbed your button and my aim is to join and post for your party - but with a caveat, should I plummet into the black vortex of despair.

    Beautiful painting btw.

    2. So, first I translated one of my poems, but I wasn't entirely happy with the result. So then I started writing something, but it's already 3 pages long and *nothing* has happened yet... But then I saw that I have reached 100 followers, so now I'm planning a post with a giveaway an' all :)
Long story short: I'm definitely in, I just don't know with what yet.

  8. This sounds so fun and I particularly like the theme! I will take a quote from my Facebook here:

"Darkness is not harsh, does not give sunburns or cause cancer. In darkness there is a serenity. There is a quiet that allows me to hear things I might not otherwise hear. My senses heighten. My blood pressure lowers. I move slower and I take more care in the darkness. I have found boundless gifts and wisdom in darkness. I find that time in the light is beneficial only in very small doses as long as precautions are followed. Beware of anyone compelled to announce they come in love and light..."

  18. Hi Magaly! Thanks for this fresh perspective on darkness. I never thought of it as a womb where a baby grows. It has always bothered me that heaven is a place where there is eternal light and no darkness. How can anyone not appreciate the beauty of night in all its moods? I have howled at the moon ~ up in northern Canada under the northern lights walking on the ice and hearing wild wolves howl! I wouldn't trade that memory for anything! Take care!

I'm imagining bursting into a room with a lot of empty wine glasses and beer bottles, a few balloons floating about, and some unidentified person with streamers in their hair, passed out in the corner. TA-DAH! ;D
