Witches in Fiction 2013… to the Bone
“Do what you love. Know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it,
unearth it, and gnaw it still.”
Those
deliciously organic words, by Henry David Thoreau, describe some of the most important
reasons behind my decision to write Pagan Culture. Four years of living,
sharing and learning have made the initial motives even truer and closer to my
heart.
I’m
all about knowing what lies beneath my skin and gnawing at my own bone. The more I understand
myself, the clearer I can see everyone (and
everything)
else. So… this year, for Pagan Culture’s 4th blogoversary, I wish to
celebrate three things I’ve always enjoyed exploring, experiencing and nibbling at: witches, fiction, and bones.
I’ve
spent the last few months working on Dancing
on Her Bones, an AlmaMia Cienfuegos novel. The story has little to do with actual bones, but
every time I need a boost of inspiration I jump on my cyber broom and search for
bone fiction, bone poetry, bone magic, bone crafts, bones… Would you like to add to my bone vault? If you said yes,
then welcome to Witches in Fiction 2013… to the Bone!
Here Are the Steps to Party By:
1. Use the
InLinkz widget (at the end of the post) to add your
blog name to the party list
2. Grab the
party button (or image), place it
somewhere on your blog, and link it to this post
3. From April 1st
to April 13th, begin blogging to the bone. Everything bone
goes: fiction, magic, poetry, spirituality, painting, crafts, history, myth, anthropology, medicine, lore, music, photography… let your muse set the boundaries (or let her run wild).
4. You are only
required to post on April 13th. However, there will be a
special you-are-so-wicked-awesome giveaway for one of the Wicked Darlings who blogs at least 5 out of the 13 days.
5. Every time you write a new party entry (starting April on 1st), use the InLinkz widget (at the end of the post) to add the direct link to the new post.
Extra Wicked Bits:
* The “Boar Skull Bone Art” image was provided by Laura, the Forest of Bones and Forest Art Walk goddess
* You are not required to spread the word, but I would do a happy dance if you tell ;-)

Beautifully painted skull..
ReplyDeletecongrats on your milestone, Magaly, very happy that you found blogging the way of self expression and confidence.
I'm so participating in The Witches in Fiction 2013 to the Bone! Will definitely find something to blog about... Wow, some idea has come to my mind already:)
thanks for organizing this event.
I'm so excited you joined in. I can't wait to see what witchy/bonny bits you'll share with us ;-)
DeleteCongrats! Hmmm...have to think about the BoneaBlog!
ReplyDeleteHugs
SueAnn
"BoneaBlog!" lol
DeleteDid she just say BoneaBlog? That is sooo funny!
DeleteI thought the same thing. BoneaBlog is a deliciously funny combination word ;-)
DeleteCrap. I did it wrong - again! I didn't understand that I was supposed to write "Ms Misantropia" and not my actual name... Tried to add myself a second time but couldn't since it was already added. Can you fix it please? I would love to join your party!
ReplyDeleteIn the words of a very intelligent five-year-old who used to live next door to me: "I fixeded it ma'ma!" ;-)
DeleteWAHOO! Thanks to Ms. Misantropia for the heads up. I'm in and do I have some fabulous ideas for this one! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have you. Ms Misantropia is quite the linker--I found your blog through her, too ;-)
DeleteAh, I'm bringing people together! Who woulda thunk :)
DeleteYour gifts know no boundaries ;-)
DeleteThis blog party should produce some interesting results! Have fun, everyone!
ReplyDeleteSame to you, Debra :)I feel you will seek and find something interesting for us ;)
DeleteI can't wait to see the diverse contributions ;-)
DeleteOh my.....I'm so happy. Been waiting for this. Now that my creation area is orderly, I can begin to piece together a super entry for your 2013 Witches in Fiction extravaganza. And yes, it's up on Ye Olde Crone's Gazette and posted on FB and I'll write about it this weekend....I may even have to take a trip to....the boooooneys to gather some boneeeeees. Could be even more fun. Oma Linda
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what the Olde Crone will dig up. She's always visiting the most interesting of places ;-)
DeleteNow I am hungry for spare ribs lol :D XXX
ReplyDeleteHot damn! now I'm hungry for spare ribs, too, and it's 6am *sigh*
DeleteGina you started something. Now I want ribs too. Slow cooked and smothered in barbecue sauce - meat falling of the bones. Yum!
DeleteHot damn with barbecue sauce on it! I have to stop reading this kind of messages early in the morning. Now I want ribs. Might have to get me some. Yum, indeed!
DeleteI am hungry for ribs now too! Magaly, I think you should have a spare ribs blog party ;o)
DeleteEvery time I think I'm over the cravings, the damn ribs come back! I'm going to Famous Dave's tomorrow and eating ribs until I pass out!
DeleteWhee! I got #7! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the party.
I love when people squeal ;-)
DeleteYay! I have been having some blogging anti-commitment lately, but this gonna pick me up outta my rut. Two words:Sexing Skulls Category: Forensic Anthropology
ReplyDeleteShe things my skull is sexy. It always turns her on... I'm pretty sure that's how the song goes ;-D
DeleteI have to think about this one Magaly ;o) It sounds like a lot of fun ;o) I am just trying to imagine my crow's bones ;o) LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou know, it doesn't have to be your "crow's bones", what about your crows and a skull or three? In a Poe style? I always love me a bonny classic ;-)
DeleteYou always have great ideas ;o)
DeleteThat's because I have inspirational friends ;-)
DeleteI don't really know much about bones. Guess I have to do some homework.
ReplyDeleteLearning something new is always a great intensive to join a party *cough, cough, cough*
DeleteI must admit, lately I'm feeling very detached from the realm I should be in. I'm not sure what I would write about, but I'm sure I can come up with something. I hope. I have a couple months to prepare. ;)
ReplyDeleteBones. You should write about bones. And Witches. Yes, bones and Witches. Don't slap me, I'm lovably ;-)
DeleteI was wonderfing what I had in a bone capacity and them I thought of these http://rhissanna.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d5hbw2y that I made for Hubby's Steampunk Study. Someone suggested i do the Karma Sutra, which is a charming idea. So, if I can dig out some more skellies, I'm game!
ReplyDelete*proofreads post AFTER posting* Uh, you do read typo, don't you? Just look at those errors. Sorry.
DeleteI keep myself from proofreading after I hit enter (must of the time). It only gives you headaches ;-)
DeleteI love your skully in a jar. Did you name it? Hm, maybe you can make one with a spring flare to it. Take inspiration from The Waste Land, "That corpse you planted last year in your garden, 'Has it begun to sprout?" ;-)
just two days ago we watched Taboo on National Geographic about the worst professions..one was - a corpse garden worker. there is something in this...
Delete"a corpse garden worker" even I have to say that this sound creepy...
DeleteSounds like fun, but although I enjoyed participating in last year's Witches in Fiction, I'm going to have to pass this year. I have too much on my plate right now with everything going on. I'm not much into bones, but that's a cool skull in your photo. Is it painted, or are those actual flowers and plants modgepodged on?
ReplyDeleteYou take care of your huge plate. I totally get it, if I had more sense, I would probably stop joining everything under gods' earth. But I'm bad to the bone ;-)
DeleteTotally forgot to answer your question about the skull. Those are real flowers and real wings. Laura's work is AWESOME. Here is the link to her blog, where you can find a lot of her work: http://forestwalkart.blogspot.com/
DeleteAwesome, thanks for the link! Going there now :)
DeleteI hope you like Laura's blog, because I LOVE it!
DeleteThis sounds like it will be lots of fun. Now I've got to do some scavenger hunting for bones.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'll be doing a give away of a small Day of the Dead painted beaded and glitz skull(styrofoam).
Hooray! Can't wait to see the colors of your lovely bones ;-)
DeleteHow fun! Please count me in. I will return later to grab your button. The lovely Ms. M just arrived and we are going to hang out "cool mother/awesome daughter" style. Hugs my love!
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be a party without my Mina and her witchy green sprinkles ;-)
DeleteExcited to be a part of the party for the 3rd year!!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite thrilled, too. I'm always happy to see what others come up with when we celebrate Witches in fiction, and now that we've thrown a bone into the mix... well, can't wait to see ;-)
DeleteThis is going to be fabulous. ^____^
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see/read all the great stuff we're all going to come up with!
XOXO
I can't wait to read everybody's imagination when after it goes all the way to the bone ;-)
DeleteSo as I was reading through this, my inner wicked witch began rubbing her hands together and cackling wildly, saying "aha!" because bone and antler are some of my favorite mediums for my Art (by which I mean both crafty and witchy). I am so in. Provided I still have internet access when it begins, lol.
DeleteDear Fox and Dragon, I have the feeling that the internet will be good just so that the world can see the beauty of your bones and antlers ;-)
DeleteMy friend, I am going to get my butt in gear, hopefully within this next week coming and make something for your party, as a giveaway. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs and I hope you are well! Thinking of you ;o)
That sounds wonderful, Stacy. I bet you'll come up with the perfect interpretations of 'to the Bone' as you always do with everything.
DeleteP.S. I've been thinking about your latest painting all day. The one with the two crows and the tree. Whimsical...
I would love to be a sponsor as well. Been working on the writing and also on the "centerpiece" of the story.....it will be my art project giveaway. I'll send pictures and description soon. xoxo YBF Oma Linda
ReplyDeleteI will add your name to the sponsor list. It is sooo good to have you, Oma Linda ;-)
DeleteYep, I'm in Wicked Boney M ;)
ReplyDeleteI would tell you what I'm thinking, but I know I don't have to... but I'm giggling ;-)
DeleteOh yes 'in' for sponsor too, I'll donate a scully aceo methinks...
ReplyDeleteand no, you don't have to tell me what you are thinking you Wicked girl :)
Happy belated blog birthday! I am incredibly overwhelmed with custom orders, house work, gardening to-do list...so I am joining the bone party. Who can resist a gathering of witches writing, crafting, painting, & percolating about bones?
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of me. I'm busy up to my ears, but yesterday I joined Ms Misantropia's first blog event. It makes complete sense. I can't wait to read your bits about bones ;-)
DeleteThis sounds like so much fun! I'm in! I've been considering adding fiction writing to my blog and you're like a sign from the God/dess that I should start.
ReplyDeleteThe world can never have too many storytellers!
DeleteI'm in. I'm pretty sure I have to be. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I accidentally put my blog address is the linky, instead of a post-specific address. So here's the post:
http://pasoubliette.blogspot.com/2013/04/bones-is-my-name.html
I found you anyway ;-)
DeleteThis sounds like a lot of fun! But, I'm not a good writer. But, this sounds like a lot of fun so I might give it a try anyways!!
ReplyDeleteSo, just to confirm you are just looking for inspiration. The topics can range about anything and everyone, not specifically about the Bone. Because we 'blogging to the Bone'?
Also because we are only required to post here once, I was thinking of creating a category on my blog and just posting on my blog using the category. Then I think what I'll like here is the filtered topics, so you can see all the posts I list for the Bone... Will that be okay to do? Or if I write more do you want me to submit each link?
Sorry for the questions!! Thank you so much!!
Writing is not the only thing, as long as your post has to do with witches and/or bones, you are more than okay. People have posted stories, personal accounts about bones, book reviews, metaphors... you name it, they've do it. I've listed them on my sidebar (below the giveaways).
DeleteIt is best to list the direct link to the individual posts. I don't check the each link every day, so if I don't get the notification from InLinkz, I will probably miss your post and not add it to my sidebar.
Welcome to the fun!
Wonderful!! Witches and Bones, got it! And I'll post the posts individually here.
DeleteThank you :)
Sounds wonderful! I found this blog by accident and I would love to participate! I can still join the party?
ReplyDeleteBy all means! The more the merrier ;-)
DeleteBoy you are one busy lady ~ I'll tell you! Just wanted to pop-in and say how much fun I'm having following along with your To the Bone festivities. I may not be participating in all of the hooplah or entering for everything but I sure do admire all the fab goodies and content you've got going!! *smile* You never cease to inspire!
ReplyDelete♥Sharon
The whole thing is so much phone that I haven't had time to feel too busy. I'm expecting is going to hit me a day or so after the party. You'll notice when I'm MIA lol
DeleteYou are too sweet ;-)
