A Witch’s Lair

Recently, a blog friend described her interior design as “moody,” and asked readers if they thought their own styles reflected their lives and who they were. I thought about it for a while, walked around my home, and came to the conclusion that my decorating style is eclectically witchy… with books in it.

Here is the wee tour (click on the pictures to make them bigger):

Precious mementos, symbols, story-loaded gifts, poetry, and a tiny iron elephant

A sake set, some twisted sticks, uncanny flower specimens, a wicked angel, and, um… It’s a Book

My crafty station and some very shiny leather bound classics

The whole picture; more books, Shelle’s art high on the left, and on the right… more elephants

Ivy for good luck; the one on the left is dead, the one on the left is growing, they are both beautiful

A naked tree waiting for a holiday, ivy in a boot (protected by a frog), and my broom

Orange peels for light, strawberry leaves for love and luck, and a salt-filled (camera shy) cow

A frog, The Crone, Old Man Death, books, and an amber ball blazing for the camera

Attila and Janani on their couch; the first sleeping, and the second… somewhat befuddled

So yes, my style is eclectically witchy; filled with stories and bits of love other people have given me. And my home reflects my life and who I am. What about you, Luvs, are your homes pictures of you?

  1. So, I got to your leather bound books, and, um...I'm jealous.

I love what you've done with your home. And I may have to try getting some ivy when I get my own place again. :)

    1. The glorious books are Jacobs, but what's his is mine and what's mine is mine... I'm sure that's how it goes ;-)

Again, I've done most of the organizing if not all, but my Love is the one working hours upon hours to get the house in order. He rocks!

  2. I remember your post called Home is where a witch is..:) I like your house, it looks true, really reflects your personality, interests.i also try to create MY home in India. First I started making library here, which is slowly growing. Secondly, I incorporate my crochet into our interiors, I feel homely when I see another crochet doily lying on the cupboard. I also put my religion's sings like cross, some icons which remind me and others who else lives in the house (you know, we live with my husband's parents, no comments here:)) My native country's pictures, magnets with views of the hills, small figures of a cat, a clay owl, two wooden owls, aroma lamp... and to tell the truth, I'm a clean-house-lover, so my room always looks tidy and pleasant to sit in :) my parents' house of course, completely reflects my hobbies and interests too as I spent the biggest part of my life there.
oh see, we all like to talk about ourselves ;)

    1. Talking about ourselves is awesome. And the fact that we love ourselves and project the lovely feelings we have for someone else through communication, makes the listener (reader?) very happy. At least this reader ;-)

  3. My bookshelves are like yours, a combo of books, artifacts and do-dads, but mine are much, much messier, LOL!

  6. So neat! Is that the Marine in you manifesting? ;) My current living circumstances have my stuff confined to one room, but it's in the process of being packed for a move. But, yea, that one room is me.

  7. I love all the things on your shelves, and I love those shelves, you are blessed to have them! It is calming and serene to be surrounded by the story-filled items we love. Thanks for showing your "stuff". My home relects a long married life, witchy stuff and I guess a lot about cats and dogs (chuckle).

  8. I'm glad I could inspire a new way too look at your home, and thank you for the link back! I agree with previous comments, your house definitely seem to reflect who you are. I really like seeing all your little shrines and charms! Btw, do you have a good tip for any such to infuse your home with more harmony and good luck? It's been pretty rocky sailing here lately, as you might know.

    1. "a good tip for... harmony and good luck"? I think the most important thing is to start by physically decluttering the space. After that, the best thing is to set up everything in ways (patterns or not) that please your eyes and heart. Then, herbs and scents that calm you and bring out good emotions. I use lavender and rosemary and citrus in general. I guess is all up to you ;-)

  10. What a great glimpse into your world! My home is, well, aside from every window and door being covered in thick plastic to preserve heat, not very "photographic" at the moment, LOL. I have the "Witch-in-training and a bit of practice" thing going on with lots of "piles" of stuff hastily put away before the grand-kids visits each time. Oh and I can't forget the half-used, half-chewed up roll of toilet paper I confiscated from my dog a couple days ago (he has a thing for socks and rolls of toilet paper, LOL) ;)

    1. PS, I love the shy cow...which reminds me, I took a picture of a frog last year who was climbing all over our front porch and thought of you. I'll have to email him to you! The pic, not the actual frog!

    2. Didn't you know that plastic on windows is winter's coolest fashion? We have an enormous, old, airy house, so yes, we are sporting plastic, too. Thank goodness Attila and Janani don't care for toilet paper. Rosemary plants on the other hand...

I want to see the frog!

  16. If my home is a reflection of me, I'm in trouble! We are in too small a space, so there's not much room for decoration or personalization. Although if you looked at my work space in the kitchen, it would be clear I love to cook and spend a lot of time there. All my appliances, big and small, are smashed in together and just a bit of counter space for working. Cookbooks are scattered throughout the house, but my 3 favs are right there in the kitchen with me.

  20. Wow, my environment would probably say that I'm rather lazy, or.....scatterbrained. My plant died (I had it a year, don't know why it died but I know I'm good at killing plants.) and my books are all ebooks on an iPad.

Holy crap. I'm "LJ the Electronic Witch!" I don't know whether to laugh and dance with my iPad or cry.
