Chaos Is from Mercury Retrograde and Word-Verification Is from Hell

When Sunfire asked if I paid attention to the “backwards” movements of the planet, I thought I do, but too closely because I don’t think it affects me all that much. And that’s kind of true. I say ‘kind of’ because I keep myself from starting new projects and explaining complicated situations to people who don’t know me that well. Hey, I’m a Witch, what did you expect?

Then it all started…
I was in a workshop discussing fiction that involved HIV, mania and depressants. I said something about how HIV is not transmitted by osmosis, and about the effects of depressants on individuals experiencing the high of a manic episode. The discussion got loud after very long and the instructor—as the intelligent moderator he is—said something like: let’s just leave it at that. I’m not a doctor and neither are you.

We were pressing for time, so I nodded. But as I said in Dumb Cane Binding, my brain doesn’t work that way. So it pushed my mouth to mumble, “Of course, a few years as the case manager of drug users and HIV positive individuals didn’t teach me much.”

Someone sitting a few seats away heard what I said, and asked, “Really? You must tell me about it.” I winked at her, and gestured that I would tell her after class. She nodded. A girl sitting next to her—and who might not like me very much—rolled her eyes and muttered, “I don’t need you to waste my time;” yep, body language gone wrong. *Mercury Retrograde 1 – Magaly 0*

The next blow came from Blogger’s double word-verification. This damn thing is confusingly annoying most days, but it has been a nightmare these last few days. If your blog has word-verification, you might have noticed that I haven’t commented in a several days. I have visited, trust me. But having to type all those fussy, meaningless words has made me edgy… because I keep on getting them wrong. *Mercury Retrograde 2 – Magaly 0*

I’m hoping this Mercury Retrograde will get no more points. I’ll get some herbs to push away the madness. Periwinkle, basil and dandelion should help me focus. I’ll also meditate and visualize those around me seeing things like I mean them. Of course, practicality and magic go hand in hand, in following that thought, I ask you: Say No to Double-Word Verification! my Wicked Luvs.
What about you, my Wicked Darlings? Does this Mercury Retrograde bit affect you? And if it does, how do you deal with it?

P.S. At about 9pm (Mar 16th) my blog went crazy and my layout went back to classic. I thought I would have to rebuild everything from scratch. As you can read on this Facebook  rant(ish) status update, I was a bit upset. This is just the beginning... *Mercury Retrograde 3 – Magaly 0*

  1. Isn't that funny. I have had so much trouble with it (double word) too!
Funnier still, it never occurred to me that I must have it on my blog as well, ha! *Trotting off to fix that little problem right now...*

    1. Well, on the funny side of things, I found out that many of my problems on Blogger had to do with my using a third party comment system. I switched back to Blogger--now it has threaded comments, so I don't mind--but looking at comments on the old posts is hilarious because they look like I was having a long conversation with myself *sigh*

  2. Is there a petition against Word Verification?  Cause I want to sign it.  I'm not 20 anymore people!  I can't see the damn fuzzy - is it a letter, maybe it's a number, what the hell am I looking at - words in the box!!!  Alright, I think I'm breathing normal now.  I kinda lost it there for a minute.  We'll keep this between us, okay?

    1. The thing is that having double word verification is an individual decision. All a blogger has to do is disable it. Some people like it, so I'm glad they have the option to have it; I'm just not fighting as hard to comment on their blogs. After loading and reloading a few times, it gets ridiculous.

I rid both of my blogs of that awful word verification thingy!!  Drives me nuts!!

Wow, talk about technology and communication errors... I just spent the last hour repeatedly refreshing and otherwise reloading this page just to be able to comment. Apparently, Disqus was having issues.... But, I'm posting now!
Thanks for mentioning the captcha thing. I haven't had any personal issues filling them in, but I do have it enabled on my blog, and that might be why people haven't been able to comment lately.... Going to reset my comment moderation, probably...

    1. You are such a life saver! I checked some things out after I read this comment, and you know what? The Disqus/Blogger relationship--or lack thereof--was what caused all the havoc. So things, my dear luv!

I'm back with Blogger and I'm not too unhappy, for it now has threaded comments ;-)

Maybe the new word verification was invented by someone who was affected by the last Mercury retrograde... truly hate it. Especially if all I want to comment is something along the lines of "thumbs up" and have to try three different wiggly word combinations for that. There is not enough time in the day for this madness!

(Plus, honestly... do people really think they will have that much trouble with spam? In my years of blogging, I have had two spam comments and one hate mail.)

i've never had the word verification...and only maybe once or twice did i have to delete a 'spammer' comment.  too many times i've wasted 'time' trying to copy the words...only to get it wrong . but really! i'm NOT a robot. life's too short!  :)

    HIV...osmosis...ha!  being a massage therapist...and having had LOTS of HIV/AIDS clients...and NEVER wearing gloves...uh oh....haha

lately...it seems the ignorant are coming out of the closet...in droves! maybe i shouldn't say ignorant...but where are all these closed minded...people coming from?  (can't you do a spell or something...and stop the gibberish coming out of their mouths??)  :)

    1. Don't get me started about how uninformed people are when it comes to HIV and AIDS because I would rant for days and it won't be pretty lol

Sometimes, I think that things would be different if, as a specie, we liked each other enough to pay closer attentions at the things that afflict others.

    2. exactly! and i can rant pretty good too when it comes to the uninformed on this subject too...

    3. It's hard to have a heart and a brain and not be disgusted. So many of my clients and their families were humiliated by ignorant filth, that it made it really hard not to grab someone and just them while screaming "WTF is wrong with you!?"

  7. Oh, you poor Luv! Retrograde Mercury always kicks me in the arse & I hate it. I find that working on projects that I started before the retrograde started are not affected, so it's a good time to go back to older projects that you put aside. Fortunately I have lots!

Word verification is the debil! >(

  8. Double word verification is rough on eyes that aren't so young anymore! I suppose the at Mercury Retro affects me, just a few days later than most everyone else. It does seem that I am out of sync with this reality...like half a step...sometimes. Wish I knew how to skip back into step.

  10. During Mercury retrograde this loud mouthed Sag girl has been know to fall into a few rumbles ; ) This particular retrograde I'm very inward. I'm having such conversations with my Shadow that have been a long time coming. It's not pretty, but neither is decomposing....however, that decomposition is rich in minerals for growth.

    No, I'm not high.

    1. You are a bundle of lovely joy infused with delicious laughter, my friend.

Decomposition is not such a terrible thing, like death, is part of the renewing cycle. That is the reason why some relationships have to rot before they can show new growth.

I'm not high either, unless you count the laughter bit ;-)

  11. I hate word verification whether it's double, single or otherwise. For some reason, the word only goes through about 50% of the time and my fingers aren't that fat.

As for the HIV thing, I'm sure you didn't need the other chick wasting your time and spewing negativity by flapping her lips about something that didn't concern her. *Mecury Retrograde - 0, Magaly - 1*

You see? I've been expressing my feelings just fine. LOL! Perhaps the Zodiac is feeling the retrograde, too. ;-)

  12. Ugh, I took the word verification off for ONE day and had THREE spam comments from some IT India thing...so, I had to put it back on. Why can't they just put an end to those auto-commenting programs that really do NOTHING for the ones using them anyway? Many times, I can't figure out what the heck the letters are supposed to be and I'm HUMAN. (I think)

    1. Really? How awful. Have you tried reporting it to Blogger? There is a tab at the very end of your comment section, withing setting. I'm saying to try that because maybe something is not working right. My stats are decent, and I do get a lot of spam, but Blogger filters it.

And I, too, feel pretty inhuman when I tried to read word-verification nonsense lol

Retro but then like you, little annoyances (and well some major one's too) bite me in the butt until I realize Merc. is going backwards. I like the idea of the herbs you mentioned and a witch once told me lighting a yellow candle (which is one of Merc.'s colors) and asking him for smooth sailing (as much as one can smooth sail during a retro. period) often helps.

  15. Ugh.. I want to punch Mercury in the face right now... Blogger has been eating the posts I've written and saved as drafts... I've been misplacing stuff left and right and there's been nothing but miscommunication between Nate, Hubby and myself.. Too much craziness, I tell ya.... I'm ready to find a nice rock to hide under but then I wouldn't be able to have fun for Ostara if I did that...

I'm taking off word verification until Mercury goes direct.. Something tells me Blogger isn't done being a pain in my ass this time around (and Mercury Retrograde usually doesn't bother me that bad!)

  16. I rarely experience much additional retrograde pain and I always wonder if it is because I am a Virgo who was born while Mercury was retrograde. There are times everything seems backward and my thinking and communication are muddled anyway. ;-)

That double word verification makes me insane! My eyes are getting older..er...more mature, and I can hardly read those fuzzy things. I really hate it because it is making my desire to comment a little less all the time.

Honey, I am taking a week long vacation (you can see my post where I am gloating, if you'd like) and want to tell you to take care, never stop speaking your brilliant, sharp witted mind and I will be in touch as soon as I return. Hugs to you, my sweet friend.

  20. I haven't paid much attention in years, but comparing this one and the last, I've noticed that getting people to understand me is difficult. Also, I feel like something is draining my energy. 23. I have to say when I was on anti-depressents I didn't mind the level feeling, but I hated when I couldn't feel...you know, that happy feeling my husband gives me. So we both said, "forget it!" and I went off them. I'd understand when people say they will take the lows in order to have the highs. It's life, I don't like it when I feel stuck on a low point, but whatever - I'll live. :)

As for HIV, there is no excuse for that ignorance. Did you hear about this African country where they make the HIV kids wear a red stripe on their uniforms so everyone knows they have HIV. I can understand the need for precaution, but just tread every bleeding incident with care and you'll all be fine. And that without causing all the trouble of singling out those poor kids.

I'm not really sure about Mercury Retrograde affecting me. I'm a bit crabby but that could be a normal cycle too. Who knows? lol
