Armed, Sexual, Breedy—or Not—Everyday Woman of Ishtar

On Monday,
I’m armed against labelers
who aim to define me
without knowing me.

On Tuesday,
I’m sexual in flesh and spirit—
hard and sleek;
my blood heats up
and I scream mirth-infused moans.

On Wednesday,
I’m breedy.
I birth ideas, tomorrows, souls
and occasionally
pain.

On Thursday,
I choose not to be what they want,
unless I want that, too.

On Friday,
I’m she, who likes
the story told on the surface of the mirror.

On Saturday,
I am woman—
kingdom maker, king breaker,
queen of heaven and earth,
goddess of love, lust and war.
Take from me, any day,
and I’ll pierce the underbelly of your world
to retrieve what’s mine.
I’m of the stars,
the light of the world.
I battle. I maim. I heal.
I feel, scent, see, listen, taste…
I judge.

From Monday to Saturday, I am.
I—no one else—can choose
who, when, what or why I am.

On Sunday,
I am Armed,
I am Sexual,
I am Breedy (or I’m not).
I am a woman of Ishtar.
I am who I choose to be,
Every Day of My life.

Very witchy, my dear!  Also, it reminds me of Gloria Anzaldua's book Borderlands, where she talks about the goddess Coatlicue...

  14. That would be remarkable and a dream of mine, too. For now, I'll choose how to feel at the things that life throws my way.  But yes, how wonderful it would be...

  24. Wow!  This was fierce!  I can only aspire to be so empowered.  I think I’ll begin with Mondays.  I despise when others try to label and define me yet their own lives are teeter totter between chaos and mediocrity.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Between Chaos and Mediocrity" that sounds like a good title! And I like Monday, too. I figure we should take charge of our own self before aiming for anything else ;-)

Have you ever read "My Many Colored Days" by Dr. Seuss?  This made me feel almost exactly like that does.

    1. You've just made me smile so very hugely, Kerry. You see, because I wasn't born in the United States and didn't know the language until very late in my teen years, I missed many of the nursery rhymes and children's books. I had never read this and I like it a lot! Thank you, ;-)

    1. Giving too many damns, even just "a damn", about what others think of our actions and feelings can leave us quite cage. We ought to give our souls the sky.

  41. Loved this, Magaly--many excellent lines of spirit and spirituality--my favorite though may be "...I scream mirth-infused moans. ...' Saw a little pic and slogan of Freya once that said: Freya, goddess of love and war/If you can't lay 'em, slay 'em. ;_)
