Bogging Bits, Google+, Blackmail, Linky, Mild Seduction...

First, I must ask the question that has been boggling the minds of thinkers all over the world: is the retirement of Google Friend Connect, um… connected to the end of the Mayan Calendar?

The question has been asked, so let’s address the phenomenon to come: after March 1, 2012, non-Blogger sites won’t have access to Google Friend Connect.

According to the Google Official Blog, you better get a freaking Google+ account or else! Fine, so they only “encouraged the affected sites” to join their circle, but you can feel the huge little push, can’t you? I have a Google+ account, but for some reason it doesn’t attract me. In fact, I make faces when I look at that profile. I have no idea why. It’s weird…

So… for my non-googlers (that sounds like an insult, doesn’t it?) I’ve added a Linky widget to my sidebar; won’t you follow me, my Wicked Darlings? I like seeing your cute tiny pictures when I’m flying around Pagan Culture. I might add a Google+ badge in the future *makes a stink-face and sucks her teeth* or maybe not.

Also, if you love my witchy rambling—this sounds a lot like pacifist blackmail, but it’s just mild seduction. Anyhoo, if you love me true and hard, follow me via email. I promise to keep it exciting. Okay, I just made myself giggle lol.

All silliness aside, well, some of the silliness aside, I hope I don’t lose too many of you. Guess we’ll see—or not—after March 1st
This delicious serving of Sunshineshelle’s artistic gumbo evokes happy thoughts. I’m all about sharing the happiness. There is something magical about those huge honey eyes and plump pink lips that send my soul to a tranquil spot.

Yeah, curious how this is going to turn out. Not all that tech-savvy,  but this sucks just enough to make me want to learn something new.

  2. Phew! I'm pretty sure I'm safe from the Mayan curse, but I'd love to know which dickwad put a closing down date on a friends connection system anyway :S And why can't they just cancel it?? Wonder how many people are going to think I've abondoned them when the links go down? I have no idea about technical stuff like this, and with the threat of timeline on FB too it all gets a bit much for this garden witch (must pray harder) :D XXX

  3. My thoughts exactly. Linky was my first step at learning (trying) something new. I might compare it to other things and see how it works...

  4. I feel the same way. How many of my blogger friends from Wordpress and other platforms will think that I went puff? I opened a Wordpress account and started following them that way, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest at the moment.

And I'm glad you mentioned Facebook Timeline--I had no idea what it was. I guess I should take a bit of time to look at it. I have a feeling that some of my friends will have to take A LOT of time Facebook-purging. That doesn't even sound comfortable. They should probably consider "praying harder," too lol

I just don't keep up with all this stuff.  I have heard of the dimise of google friends' connect but I am not sure what I will do about it.  I did put a new linky thingy on my blog and that is about all I have done.   Sigh!  Why can't they leave things alone.  Sheesh

  6. This is a little crazy, isn't it? And I doubt it will ever be left alone, how else would they compete? Guess we'll have to adapt and overcome as always...

I follow you in my blogger feed. You know my paranoid self. I honestly believe the G in Google stands for government. Yes, I'm completely sober....other than a pill or 5 ;)

Man... I don't understand this stuff... can someone draw a picture for me because I swear it's like working out equations in advanced math... maybe even physics... like a different language... I hope I don't lose my buddies... I love my buddies... GOOOOOOGLE... what are you up to??? OK, but Magaly...  my babe takes you to a tranquil place... :) so pleased to see her here, & I'm guessing that place is nowhere near the Google Corporation Headquarters ;)

*holds head in hands* I'm so confused......

  10. Folks could still follow the blog via a feed reader, but it wouldn't show them on a neat thingy like the Friend Connect box.  All these changes to various Google products is starting to make me one twitchy witch.  I use a lot of Google stuff because it was easy and convenient.  Now it's getting complicated and confusing.  *Gives Google a squinty eyed stare*  Shape up, Google!

  11. Ok now following you on Linky and have added a Linky to my blog as well :)

  12. Hey My Friend ;o) You know I am following you ;o) Big Hugs for last night! I truly appreciate everything! I have to admit, I am still confused about this entire google thing. But, as long as I don't miss out on the people I follow and the people who follow me, that's all I care about ;o) Big Hugs ;o)

i had no idea...about all this google stuff...but it doesn't surprise me...sometimes i think they (google) get so excited when they know they have us under their control.  they hook us...and then make changes, knowing it's either flounder or follow. :/  hmmmmm, i'll check out your linky thingie.

wow!  beautiful art at the end there....to soothe our "huh?! what the hell's going on" minds!! :)

Hi Magaly, Thanks for your lovely positive comments on my blog:0) I share your dismay with Google but I'd rather adapt than go through the disruption we suffered last year when it floundered. Here's hoping the Linky followers gadget works long term! I checked out the google circle of friends and got totally confused, what are they on about??LOL

  18. As long as I can access my own blog I can access yours, because my blog's sidebar has a nice blog list I created for the purpose. Still... Why do they have to change everything all the time?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have you neatly placed in my sidebar among some of my most favorite blogs, so, with or without Google's assistance, I can find you...matter of fact I think I have your url memorized ;) but I went ahead and signed up with the Linky Thing too - til I can figure out how the Google fiddling is going to mess with my own audience...

  20. It's not paranoia when Google algorithm is actually following, so I totally get it!

  21. I think things are changing so fast and so often that by the time one finishes drawing a picture the information will already be dated *sigh* But don't worry about losing me, I'm perfected the art of stalking you ;-)

And yes, you babe is absolutely adorable. Um, is she on your store? I looked and didn't find her pinkish beauty ;-(

  23. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one twitching. This things are better handled in company. You know what? I didn't even think about feed reader. Guess I better add that option, too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And I'm following right back ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. No problem, love. You and yours have been in my thoughts and will continue to be.

I'm confused about all the changes, too. And at least you don't have to worry about Facebook Timeline that seems to be another monster for some.

  26. They are just like most mildly misguided parents, I think, torturing their children because they think "it's better for them" and it keeps them from leaving the house. Hopefully the children don't slam the door and run away.

And yes, Shelle's work is fantastic. You should stop by and see the rest if you have a chance.

  27. You know I'm here for you, my dear Brandi!

P.S. I was talking about you last night, okay it was more like adding your name to a healing circle, but wanted to let you know in case your ears were dancing or ringing ;-)

  28. I'm crossing my fingers for the same, I was thinking that so many people will run to Linky that it might get overloaded. I'm hoping not, and Briggs can keep the service free.

  29. "Forced" is the keyword that pisses me off. I guess Facebook will get some glares from me in a few days.

  30. Ditto on the first and who knows on the second.

  31. You are part of my blogging circle, too. Hey, now that I think about it, the whole Google+ Circles bit sounds very witchy lol

Your not the only one that hates Google +. Though I did sign up to see what it was all about I quickly began to hate it, didn't see what was all the fuss and abandoned it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hm, it makes me wonder if this is a common occurrence...

  36. salemwitchchild2/17/2012

I wouldn't doubt it. Which might be why they are trying to push it so much. I think they had visions of putting FB out of business and its just not happening.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That makes sense, and like you, I don't see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have a Google account, but I admit I'm lost... What's this about needing to follow you via e-mail?

    ReplyDelete
  39. You and I will be fine following each other, for we both use Blogger. This apply to blogs that use a platform other than Bloggers, you know, like Wordpress?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm still wrapping my head around all this change which is hard to do when my body just wants to rest. One thing I do know is I will do whatever is needed to see your beautiful smile.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's  a bit of a mess, but I'm sure we'll figure everything out. And just so you know, you won't be able to stop seeing my "beautiful smile" if you tried. Creepy, isn't it? lol
